Students in the Let’s Rock track spend mornings rehearsing with the the Let’s Rock Ensemble, made up of rhythm section players. Students explore the works of rock, blues, latin and other contemporary, popular, and jazz forms. The mornings also include master classes in each instrument.
Electives for Let’s Rock Students (These will be chosen the first day of camp, though some options become available later in the camp week. We will help you structure your camp schedule):
Jazz Combos, Jazz Lab, Jazz Choir, Trad Jazz (New Orlean’s style), Songwriting, Crossing Borders Combos. Afternoons may include the Jazz/Rock rhythm lab which gives you a chance to performing works by our Songwriting students.
Private lessons are available for an additional $25 per 1/2 hour lesson. Students can take a maximum of 2 private lessons.
Let’s Rock Audition: Students who’s first preference is Let’s Rock will go to an audition room with other instrumentalists. Let the instructor know that you are specifically registered for Let’s Rock and no audition will be necessary.
Some rhythm section musicians will audition for placement in either Jazz band I, Jazz band II, or Let’s Rock. Placement will be based on experience and ability as well as available opportunities for rhythm instruments.
Auditions take place in faculty studios/classroooms. The room number for the Jazz Instrumental audition will be announced at the 2:00 general meeting on the first day. Following the general meeting, you will go to that audition room.
